The Cutting Garden

We are very fortunate to have a beautiful, secluded, place to grow flowers for our workshops, in the walled kitchen garden at Renishaw Hall. It is a private, peaceful, part of the Estate, with three Victorian glasshouses, a small orchard of apple, damson, and quince trees, espaliered pear trees, grape vines, and stone farm buildings.

We were very lucky to inherit beautiful perennials from the award-winning Italianate gardens at Renishaw Hall, and each year we add to the collection, sow annuals, and plant more bulbs.

We tend the Cutting Garden with the help of family, friends, and dedicated volunteers who arrive smiling (rain or shine!) and we are always grateful for the support and expertise of Renishaw's Head Gardener and his brilliant team who are incredibly tolerant of a florists love of "interesting" plants, and the odd endearing weed.

It is always a joy to share our cutting garden favourites, and many of our workshops involve picking your own pails of flowers and foliage, as we meander along the raised beds and through the perennial flower patch.  Together, we gather the freshest, most beautiful blooms, fragrant herbs, architectural seed heads, swishy grasses, and armfuls of foliage to create wild, and wonderful arrangements.

Growing flowers naturally, attracts an abundance of wildlife and it is incredible to watch as the garden dances with colours and sounds of bees, butterflies, dragonflies and woodpeckers. Our flowers are as fresh, natural and seasonal as they can be, and this feels like floristry should be in an ideal world. It really is a very special place and we are so happy to be able to share it with you.
